AIDS/HIV

HIV/AIDS is still an important issue globally. Recent reports have made it seem that we no longer have to be worried about HIV/AIDS. That fact is that even though AIDS deaths have dropped in this country due to the recent strives in AIDS medications, HIV infection has risen 23%. People are still becoming infected with HIV and it should also be stated that not all communities can celebrate the recent decline in AIDS deaths. AIDS deaths for whites, the decline was greatest at 34% whereas people of color only experienced a decline of 13%.

Men who have sex with Men are still consider a high risk group.

Women and youth are at a greater risk of an HIV infection.

Understand that HIV does not care who you are but what you do.
If you are practicing unprotected sex, sharing needles, using drugs and alcohol, then you are at risk for HIV.

Also understand that if you are in an abusive relationship, have low-esteem, homeless, or unempolyed that these things may put you at risk for HIV or a sexually transmitted disease.

Bodily Fluids that transmit HIV:

Blood
Semen
Vaginal fluids
Breast Milk

Please wear condoms for anal, vaginal, and oral sex. This will help to reduce the transmission of HIV and STD's.
